This is the first aluminium smelter built in post-Soviet Russia, commissioned in 2006. It is one of the most advanced aluminium smelters in the world in terms of its technology and environmental practices. The plant was built in just 24 months, a record short time in the aluminium industry for a new facility of this scale. It reached its design capacity in 2007.

KAZ has one potline and one casthouse. It uses RA-300 pot technology based on pre-baked anodes. In 2017, the facility introduced a new continuous horizontal casting system to produce advanced alloys. The system has a design capacity of 120 ktpy. Its products are designed for use in the automotive industry, including the manufacture of wheel rims.

In 2023, KAZ produced 127 kt of alloys (42% of the smelter's total output).
