The Kandalaksha aluminium smelter is the RUSAL Group's northernmost facility, located just 250 km from the ice-free port of Murmansk. KAZ produced its first metal in 1951.
The smelter is powered by four hydroelectric power plants located near Kandalaksha in addition to the Kola Nuclear Power Plant.
Its main product is aluminium wire rod used in the electrical industry. The wire rod is made from various alloys or commercial-purity aluminium in a wide range of diameters, from 9.5 mm to 25 mm.
