The Boguchany Aluminium Smelter is one of Russia's largest in terms of design capacity, with two phases capable of producing 298 ktpy of metal each. It is also one of the most technologically advanced smelters in Russia.
The smelter was launched in August 2015. Phase I of the smelter reached its design capacity in May 2019. BoAZ is part of the Boguchany Energy and Metals Complex (BEMO), a joint parity project of RUSAL and RusHydro, which also includes the Boguchany HPP.
The facility is highly automated and uses the latest technology. This makes it one of the most environmentally friendly aluminium smelters in the world.
Upon completion of Phase II, the plant will feature 672 RA-300B type pots, each with a capacity of 2.4 metric tonnes of aluminium per day.
