The construction of CHPP-6 began in the early 1960s, at the same time that the Bratsk Aluminium Smelter broke ground. Its first power generating facility was put into operation in 1965. In the following years, the plant continued to grow, and new facilities were put into operation. Today, CHPP-6 is a crucial part of the region's energy infrastructure. It provides electric power and heat not only to the plant but also to the city of Bratsk. CHPP-6 is one of the most compact power plants in Russia, taking up only 14 hectares of land.
CHPP-6 in Bratsk was the first facility owned by En+ to undergo retrofitting as part of the federal programme for modernising thermal power plants. Since 2020, the plant has replaced the high-pressure parts of turbine unit No. 1, increasing its capacity from 60 to 65 MW. Additionally, the furnace walls and electrostatic filter in boiler unit No. 3 were replaced. The total budget for the project was RUB 1.41 billion. The work on this facility has been finished.
